Quick and healthy food
Food – everyone needs to eat on vacation but no one wants to sacrifice beach and a sun time for long wait lines at busy restaurants. These grocery recommendations will get you to the beach sooner and keep you there longer while saving your time and money.
In an around Zadar there are many corner grocery stores where you can buy bread, cheese, cold cuts, chips, fruits and vegetables for quick healthy sustenance. These local grocery stores will happily make you a sandwich with the cheese and meat and bread that you choose from behind the counter. During the crowded peak summer season wait times will be longer for a sandwich to be made. If you’re in a hurry it’s faster to make your own when you’re out of the store.
Sonik, Bakmaz and Tommy are local chains of grocery stores that have a wide products including alcohol that you will be able to buy quickly and bring to the beach.
There are several places in and around Zadar that offer rotisserie and oven roasted bbq meals to go.
Inrterspar or Konzum are large grocery stores which have all supplies you need to cook a proper sit down meal at your place.
Almost every street corner has local bakeries that serve a Croatian specialty called Burek which is filo pastry, wrapped around meat or cheese. This is definitely a food everyone should try when in Zadar. Mliner is a bakery chain that is almost everywhere and has premade sandwiches, pizza and hotdogs for when your in a hurry. For a more traditional experience Krostula is a family run bakery that makes fresh breads and pasteries several times a day. One of my favorites is a toasted croissant stuffed with cheese and ham, its very yummy.
In addition to the corner stores and grocery stores listed ready made to go pizza options are also everywhere. In Zadar you can use Wolt and Glovo food delivery apps.
Always keep in mind that during the peak summer season wait times will be much longer. The early bird catches the worm.
