Swimming spots in the city
For a convenient swim in the Adriatic Sea, Zadar is perfect due to the fact that the sea surrounds the city. My favorite Zadar swimming locations are - the Sea organ “morske orgulje”, the board walk “Riva”, the large stone pier “Mul” and Zadars ancient city harbor “Fosa”. These swimming spots aren’t secluded beaches but afford quick access to the sea. They are in deep water and are recommended for accomplished swimmers. Always look before you leap.
The Sea Organ ”Morske Orgulje” are huge EU investment made in 2005 – stone steps engineered like a pipe organ harness the seas energy and create music as the waves move through the steps. The Sea organ is a fantastic location to jump into the sea because it is deep. The stone steps make getting in and out easier.
The boardwalk “Riva” surrounds Zadar’s perimeter. Past the sea organ every 20m are stone stairs that will lead you in and out of the sea. These multiple stair locations will not be as crowded as the Sea Organ.
In the middle of boardwalk is the highly visable the large stone pier also know as the “Mul”. This spot is always loaded with locals who have enjoyed swimming there for generations. It is a safe swimming spot but still keep an eye out because tour boats tie up there frequently. In August there is a unique and entertaining water polo court set up in the sea organized by Vakanza Zadar.
At the end of the boardwalk is Zadars Fosa harbor. This swim spot offers a bit more protection from the waves and a glorious view of the stonewalls the circle the city. This is an active harbor so watch for passing boats.
For more comfortable beach style lounging locations we recommend Uskok, Diklo and Puntamika which are on the north east coast. On the south east coast, we also recommend Kolovare and Punta Bajlo for all your beach lounging fun.
The sea is extremely medicinal for your skin and muscles. As a huge basketball player, I would frequently enjoy going for a swim after a game and letting the Adriatic restore my body. During the winter months on a sunny day, I would also enjoy a cold plunge to invigorate my body. This was best done at a swim location where walking in was available.
